Josh M. Millsaps, DDS
Dr. Millsaps was born in Charlotte but grew up in Lenoir and Hickory. After graduating from Hickory High School in 1998, he attended UNC Chapel Hill for undergraduate studies and graduated from the UNC School of Dentistry in 2005. While practicing as an associate, he had the opportunity to move back to his hometown and acquire the practice of Dr. Larry Holt in 2008. Over the years, Dr. Millsaps has been fortunate to have Dr. Steve Frye and Dr. Bill Straka join him with many wonderful patients.
With constant changes in technology in the dental field, Dr. Millsaps is always looking for new continuing education opportunities. Over the past 19 years in practice, he has taken hundreds of hours of continuing education with a particular focus on restorative and esthetic techniques, implant restoration and placement, and clear aligner therapy (Invisalign®). He is a current member of the Western Piedmont Dental Society (and past president), the North Carolina Dental Society and the American Dental Association.
Dr. Millsaps has been married to his wonderful wife, Jessica, since 2008. They have four children. While not in the office, Dr. Millsaps can be found spending time with his kids at various activities such as swim team and Scouts. He also enjoys many outdoor activities when time allows, with snow skiing being his favorite.
Eugene F. Modlin, DDS
Dr. Modlin was born and raised in Lincolnton, NC. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 1974 to 1978, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. He then was accepted into the UNC School of Dentistry in 1978 and received a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree in 1982. After 25 years of operating a private practice of general dentistry in Hickory, NC, Dr. Modlin decided to semi-retire and found a home at the office of Dr. Millsaps, helping supervise his dental hygienists. Dr. Modlin is currently serving on the Board of Directors of Hickory Christian Academy and the Catawba County Health Department.
In 1980, Dr. Modlin married his amazing wife, Laurie. They have three children, Thad, Hayes and Hillary; two daughters-in-law, Emily and Jessie; plus five grandchildren. In his spare time over the years, Dr. Modlin has enjoyed many different activities and hobbies including running, tennis, backpacking, camping, fly fishing, snow skiing, woodworking and golf. At this point he has primarily narrowed it down to golf, walking and woodworking whenever he is not in Greenville, SC, spending time with his grown children and grandchildren.
William F. Straka, DDS
Dr. Straka received a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in biology from the University of Toledo. He graduated with his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of North Carolina, Capel Hill, in 1985, and has taken advanced dental studies from Pankey Institute. He continuously takes CE courses to stay up to date with the latest in dentistry and is part of the Foothills Dental Study Circle. He has been named Hickory’s Best Dentist multiple times. Dr. Straka has been practicing dentistry since 1986 and strives to give everyone a good, functioning smile and to keep patients out of pain.
He has been married to his wife, Nance, for over 30 years and has a daughter who lives in Raleigh. He enjoys mountain biking, golfing, skiing and gardening. He is also the president of the Kiawanis Club in Hickory, NC.
William B. Hackney, DDS
Dr. Hackney received his bachelor’s degree in history from the University of North Carolina before going on to receive his dental degree from the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry in 2003. He practiced dentistry in Taylorsville for 20 years prior to joining Hickory Dentistry. He is married to his wife, Erin, and they have two sons. In his free time, he enjoys fishing.
